April 2016 update.

Dear member,

1st April sees the start of a new membership year for us. Membership subscriptions of £5 per member are now due and can be paid to any of the trustees listed below. This is going to be an exciting year for us, particularly with the Beechgrove Garden Roadshow visiting us on 28th and 29th September. We have had a general outline of the content of the programme, and the production team will be filming over the 2 days. They will be looking for anyone with a gardening problem or query which they can get one of the panel of experts to feature during the programme. We shall update you regarding ticketing etc., when we receive more detailed information from the producers.

Progress has been painfully slow with the Magus Muir project. We queried Fife Council’s request that the Trust should take responsibility for the upkeep of the Covenanters’ graves in the neighbouring field and our legal adviser, Kenny Gray, is awaiting a response from the Council. Hopefully we can get a settlement within the next week or so. Tony Wilson, our Ranger, has been working with his Elmwood College students to clear ditches and repair footpaths over the winter months and transplanted some small wild fruit trees from the Community Garden. We are very grateful for their efforts. We recently had a visit from the Forestry Commission local officer and he is very supportive of the project, which he says is one of the best examples of a natural birch woodland in Fife. As soon as we have ownership of the site, he will see what funding support he can provide for us.

You will be aware that Headon Developments have started the final clearance and landscaping of the Village Green. We all look forward to the conclusion of what has been an ongoing project since 2007.

The Community Garden and Orchard continues to flourish. We shall soon be working on our summer planting programme for the village displays. We do have one allotment available and, if you know of a budding gardener looking for a plot, please get in touch with any of the trustees.

Best regards from your Trustees.
