MEMBER’S UPDATE, 27th January 2016.
We hope that you are surviving this desperate spell of wet weather. Our project to purchase The Millennium Woodland is slowly progressing. We have now received the provisional purchase offer from Fife Council. Local solicitor Kenny Gray has generously offered to handle the legal side of the deal and we should be finalising matters in a few weeks. The Trustees intend to form a working group to assist Tony Wilson in the management of the community woodland and nature reserve site and anyone interested in participating should contact any trustee and register their interest. We are to meet with the Forestry Commission Area Manager in early February to discuss their possible future participation in the project. Tony has also prepared an extensive management plan with a view to seeking funding assistance from environmental support groups.
The Trustees are continuing their dialogue with Headon Developments, as the site work at the Glebe reaches a conclusion, and we hope to have a draft agreement on taking ownership of the site in the near future.
Bob Bilson is hoping to do some fruit tree pruning at the Orchard this Sunday 31st January at 10am. If you fancy some practical tuition you will be most welcome to attend. We are currently planning to transfer some of the surplus wild fruit tree saplings from the Community Garden up to Magus woodland. Tony Wilson is arranging to use some of his land management students from Elmwood College with the project. Sad to say we had an invasion of deer during the recent cold spell and they munched their way through a lot of the remaining winter greens. A first for the Community Garden!!
Fife Council has advised us that as a result of continuing financial constraints their Floral Enhancement Grant for 2016 has been reduced to £229. We shall have to be even more creative with our summer planting programme !!
We shall keep you updated of developments in due course.
Many thanks for your continuing support and interest,
